Our Commitment to Australian Shipping and to the community
CSL Australia is currently the largest owner of dry bulk carrier vessels registered and operated in Australia. Our three vessels – the MV Iron Chieftain (Melbourne), the Goliath (Devonport) and the CSL Thevenard (Sydney) – trade on the Australian coast proudly displaying the Australian flag. A fourth vessel, the MV CSL Pacific, the CSL Atlantic, the CSL Brisbane and the CSL Melbourne are licensed in Australia and are thus subject to Australian maritime regulations similar to that of a registered vessel.
More than 150 Australian maritime workers are employed on CSLA-owned vessels and transshipment vessels. We also undertake to train, develop and nurture young Australian maritime workers attracted to a life at sea. Our seagoing personnel are regularly given the opportunity to undertake courses at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston, Tasmania to upgrade their knowledge and ensure they remain competitive in the global shipping world.
Local management and staff are active in the Whyalla community and help support the local economy. Our corporate flag can also be seen at selected community events throughout the year, and we have developed a good relationship across the city.
